NADH-depletion triggered energy shutting with cyclometalated iridium (III) complex enabled bimodal Luminescence-SERS sensing and photodynamic therapy

Shanmughan Shamjith et al.

Summary: In this study, a quinoline-appended iridium complex was developed as a molecular probe for evaluating the endogenous NADH status using fluorescence and surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) techniques. The activated probe showed luminescence (turn-ON) and SERS (turn-OFF) switching phenomenon upon NADH-triggered activation. Additionally, the molecular probe was also demonstrated to function as a photosensitizer for generating singlet oxygen, which could be applied in multiphase photodynamic therapy.

A novel heptamethine cyanine photosensitizer for FRET-amplified photodynamic therapy and two-photon imaging in A-549 cells

Jing Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, a new cyanine-based photosensitizer Cy-N-Rh was developed using fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) mechanism to produce singlet oxygen for photodynamic therapy. Cy-N-Rh showed high efficiency of energy transfer and singlet oxygen yield, as well as excellent mitochondria targeting ability. It exhibited low dark cytotoxicity and high photo cytotoxicity in MTT test. Moreover, it could perform two-photon excitation fluorescence imaging under the 800 nm femtosecond laser.

The harsh microenvironment in early breast cancer selects for a Warburg phenotype

Mehdi Damaghi et al.

Summary: The harsh microenvironment of ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) selects for a Warburg Effect (WE) phenotype through constitutive transcriptional reprogramming, with KLF4 potentially being an inducer of the WE phenotype. In vitro results were used to simulate DCIS phenotypic evolution using a mathematical model.

Acidic pH-Activatable Visible to Near-Infrared Switchable Ratiometric Fluorescent Probe for Live-Cell Lysosome Targeted Imaging

Ayan Mukherjee et al.

Summary: In this study, a pH-activatable fluorescent dye was designed and synthesized, which can switch from visible to near-infrared spectrum under acidic conditions and be controlled by pH. The properties of this fluorescent dye were monitored using NMR, UV/vis, and fluorescence spectroscopies. The dye showed promising performance in live cell lysosomal imaging and has potential applications.
