Exploring the use of Near-infrared spectroscopy as a tool to predict quality attributes in prickly pear (Rosa roxburghii Tratt) with chemometrics variable strategy

Fangyuan Zhao et al.

Summary: In this study, a nondestructive analytical method was developed to predict titratable acid (TA), soluble solids (SS), total flavonoids (TFs) and vitamin C (VC) in prickly pear using near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) coupled with chemometrics. The best performance was achieved for TFs and VC through DBiPLSCARS with Rp of 0.9685, RPD of 4.388 and Rp of 0.9461, RPD of 3.045, respectively. Overall, fast quantitative analysis of essential quality attributes in prickly pear can be achieved through NIRS modeling approach.

Muhammad Zareef et al.

Summary: Benchtop near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy combined with multivariate analysis was employed for the classification and prediction of antioxidant properties of walnut. The study revealed that decent discrimination was achieved using principal component analysis (PCA), and Si-CARS-PLS showed optimal performance for predicting various antioxidant properties. The findings suggest that NIR integrated with Si-CARS-PLS could be a useful tool for predicting the antioxidant properties of walnut.

Investigation of nonlinear relationship of surface enhanced Raman scattering signal for robust prediction of thiabendazole in apple

Huanhuan Li et al.

Summary: Thiabendazole (TBZ) is commonly used in agriculture to control molds, but its residues may pose a threat to humans. This study suggests the use of SERS coupled with variable selected regression methods for rapid and sensitive quantification of TBZ. The CARS-ELM model shows high correlation coefficient and low prediction error, making it a promising approach for TBZ detection in Fuji apples.

Summary: Brazil's diverse native flora contains bioactive compounds that show high inhibition rates against various parasites, viruses, fungi, and bacteria, often outperforming reference antibiotics. These compounds demonstrate cancer cell selectivity, no cytotoxicity to healthy cells, and a balance between prooxidants and antioxidants that can control cancer cell proliferation. Additionally, the flora can help avoid oxidative stress and other risk factors associated with metabolic disorders.

The usefulness of NIRS calibrations based on feed and feces spectra to predict nutrient content, digestibility and net energy of pig feeds

Louis Paternostre et al.

Summary: NIRS based on combined feed and feces spectra accurately predicted the chemical composition, nutrient digestibility, and net energy content. The combination of spectra provided a better estimation, especially with merging and subtracting, compared to calibrations based on feed or feces spectra alone. Cross-validation with 4 random groups showed better results than leave-one-feed-out, indicating the importance of independent spectra for validation.
