Derivatization increases mosquito larvicidal activity of the sesquiterpene lactone parthenin isolated from the invasive weed Parthenium hysterophorus

Trizah K. Milugo et al.

Summary: Extracts from the invasive weed Parthenium hysterophorus have larvicidal activity, with ethylene glycol derivative and 2 alpha-azidocoronopilin showing higher efficacy than parthenin. Structural modifications of parthenin with hydroxyl groups enhance its larvicidal effects, suggesting potential for lead chemical development in larval source management.

Mosquitocidal effect of monoterpene ester and its acetyl derivative from Blumea mollis (D. Don) Merr against Culex quinquefasciatus (Diptera: Culicidae) and their insilico studies

Sivanandhan Subramaniyan et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the mosquitocidal efficiency of compounds isolated from Blumea mollis against Culex quinquefasciatus, showing larvicidal and ovicidal activities. Compound 2 was reported for the first time and caused serious damage to the larval midgut cells. Toxicity tests indicated both compounds were harmless to the non-target organism Poecilia reticulata, with compound 2 showing strong binding interaction with the AChE1 of Cx. quinquefasciatus.

Summary: Chromatographic purification of the alcoholic extract from the Saudi plant Nuxia oppositifolia resulted in the identification of five phenolic compounds, with two flavones and three phenylethanoid glycosides. The insecticidal and free radical scavenging activities of these compounds were evaluated, showing potential as secondary metabolites with lethal adulticidal effects against Ae. aegypti.
