Some aspects of pitting corrosion susceptibility of As-welded and thermally aged nitrogen-alloyed 316SS weld metal

Srinivas Mannepalli et al.

Summary: The pitting corrosion susceptibility of Type 316N stainless-steel welds was evaluated in different environments and the changes after thermal aging were examined. The results showed a significant decrease in pitting potential due to thermal aging, which was closely related to the formation of secondary phases.

Influence of long term Sodium Exposure on the Corrosion and Tensile Properties of AISI Type 316LN stainless steel and modified 9Cr-1Mo steel

N. SivaiBharasi et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the corrosion and tensile properties of 316LN stainless steel and P91 steel after long-term sodium exposure. The results show that sodium exposure leads to selective leaching, surface ferrite layer formation, and increased hardness in 316LN stainless steel, while P91 steel remains relatively unaffected. The study highlights the importance of material selection for fast breeder reactors and provides insights for reactor life sustainability.

Evaluation of flow accelerated corrosion and mechanical performance of martensitic steel T91 for a ternary mixture of molten salts for CSP plants

Abdiel Mallco et al.

Summary: This study investigates the corrosion behavior of molten salts on materials under high temperature conditions. The results show that the dynamic effect of flow accelerated corrosion can lead to stress corrosion cracking and change the mechanical performance of materials. Additionally, the mechanical performance of materials is significantly reduced in molten salts compared to normal conditions.

Corrosion evaluation by electrochemical real-time tracking of VM12 martensitic steel in a ternary molten salt mixture with lithium nitrates for CSP plants

Fabiola Pineda et al.

Summary: In the field of Concentrated Solar Power (CSP), the choice of metallic materials for critical components is crucial and evolving towards superior performance and cost competitiveness. Research on the corrosion behavior and mechanical properties of martensitic steel in promising ternary molten salts has revealed that the steel is more ductile but less robust in high-temperature molten salt environments.

Effect of Chloride Impurity on Corrosion Kinetics of Stainless Steels in Molten Solar Salt for CSP Application: Experiments and Modeling

Heng Li et al.

Summary: This study confirmed through experiments that as the chloride content in solar salt increases, the corrosion rate of stainless steel increases, with 316L stainless steel showing better corrosion resistance compared to 304 stainless steel. Additionally, a novel theoretical model based on Fick's first law was proposed to successfully describe the effect of chloride impurities on the corrosion kinetics of stainless steels.

Corrosion and electrochemical investigations for stainless steels in molten Solar Salt: The influence of chloride impurity

Heng Li et al.

Summary: The presence of chloride impurity in molten Solar Salt at 565 degrees C significantly increases the corrosion rates of stainless steels, enhancing the aggressiveness of the environment by producing oxidants and causing the oxide scale to spall, accelerating the corrosion process through a synergy effect of active oxidation and spallation.
