Bi(trifluoromethyl) Benzoic Acid-Assisted Shallow Defect Passivation for Perovskite Solar Cells with an Efficiency Exceeding 21%

Xingdong Ding et al.

Summary: Chemical additive engineering, specifically introducing a small organic molecule 3,5-bis(trifluoromethyl)benzoic acid (6FBzA), has been shown to significantly enhance the power conversion efficiency and stability of perovskite solar cells. The improved properties are attributed to the healing of Pb2+ defects at the surface, suppression of trap-assisted nonradiative recombination, and enhanced interfacial charge extraction and transfer. The 6FBzA-treated device achieved a champion PCE and demonstrated good long-term stability under ambient air conditions.

Se-Phin Cho et al.

Summary: This study explores the use of bi-functional and multi-functional passivation agents to enhance the performance of perovskite solar cells, showing that these compounds can improve the crystallinity and charge collection capabilities of perovskite films. By introducing different functional groups, such as COCH3 groups comprising piperidine rings, CH3, and C = O, the defect passivation effect is further enhanced, resulting in an increased power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 19.67%. Additionally, the Voc and long-term stability of COCH3-based PesC are substantially improved.

Summary: In this study, a phenolic hydroxyl-substituted polyamide derivative (PAB) was used to passivate the defect in perovskite solar cells (PVSCs). Different passivation groups attached in the chain of a polymer play a crucial role in defect passivation. By effectively interacting with trap states on the surfaces and grain boundaries of perovskite, the efficiency of PVSCs was improved and maintained for a long time.
