A wavelet-based approach for truncating pulse-like records

Vicky Dimakopoulou et al.

Summary: The paper discusses using truncated pulse-like ground motion records for rapid seismic performance assessment of structures. By identifying the duration of the predominant velocity pulse, a novel wavelet-based definition enables the efficient reproduction of seismic demand, accelerating structural analysis and design. This approach is found to be effective for pulse-like ground motions and sufficient for many other types of records as well.

Reducing Processing Time of Nonlinear Analysis of Symmetric-Plan Buildings

Juan C. Reyes et al.

Summary: The study proposes a practical method to reduce computation time in nonlinear response history analysis by trimming weak signals in input acceleration records and downsampling the remaining records. Test results show that the method is effective in estimating engineering demand parameters within 10% of original results, with an average reduction in computational time of around 50%.

Regional seismic-damage prediction of buildings under mainshock-aftershock sequence

Xinzheng Lu et al.

Summary: This study proposes a framework for predicting regional seismic damage of buildings under a mainshock-aftershock (MS-AS) sequence using city-scale nonlinear time-history analysis (THA). The proposed method can reasonably predict and generate MS-AS sequences, providing a useful reference for earthquake emergency response and scientific decision making.
