In-situ monitoring of cyclic olefin ring-opening metathesis polymerization by Raman spectroscopy: An effective tool for functional polymer and copolymer design

Yingcheng Pan et al.

Summary: The kinetics of ring opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP) of cyclic olefins and their functional derivatives using Grubbs catalysts can be effectively monitored by Raman spectroscopy. This method provides real-time concentration of monomers and polymer structure information, which contributes to the fundamental understanding for novel polymer design.

Influence of Ionic Interaction Strength on Glass Formation of an Ion-Containing Polymer Melt

Zhenyue Yang et al.

Summary: Extensive molecular dynamics simulations of ion-containing polymer melts show that both thermodynamic and dynamic properties are strongly influenced by ionic interaction strength, with characteristic temperatures of glass formation increasing linearly with increasing strength. Additionally, the growth of fragility with increasing ionic interaction strength is somewhat nonlinear. The string model of glass formation is found to provide an excellent description of the relationship between structural relaxation time and string length, indicating the potential of entropy theory in studying the glass formation of ion-containing polymers.

Glass-Transition Temperature of Cyclic Polystyrene: A Computational Study

Arlette R. C. Baljon et al.

Summary: Molecular dynamics simulations of cyclic polystyrene melts reveal conflicting findings regarding the glass transition temperature, with some experiments confirming the predictions of Gibbs and DiMarzio's theory while others showing contradictory results. Volumetric methods suggest a slight increase in glass transition temperature as the chain length decreases, while dynamics-based methods show more pronounced results. Both diffusion data and orientational autocorrelation function analysis indicate a clear increase in glass transition temperature.

Influence of Side-Chain Length and Relative Rigidities of Backbone and Side Chains on Glass Formation of Branched Polymers

Xiaolei Xu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the influence of side-chain length on the glass formation of branched polymers using generalized entropy theory and molecular dynamics simulation. The relative rigidities of the backbone and side chains are key factors in determining the characteristic properties of polymer glass formation. The predictions from the theory are largely consistent with simulation results, suggesting that the theory can be a useful tool for studying the glass formation of branched polymers.
