Photo-responsive shape memory polymer composites enabled by doping with biomass-derived carbon nanomaterials

Nina Yan et al.

Summary: A novel light-triggered shape memory composite was reported by incorporating renewable biomass-derived carbon nanomaterials into acrylate polymers, without the need for deep purification. The functionalized carbon nanomaterials not only had stable dispersion in polymers, but also enhanced the mechanical properties of the composites by forming hydrogen bonds between the carbon nanomaterials and the polymers. Additionally, the composites exhibited excellent and stable thermal and photothermal responsive properties, making them promising candidates for shape memory applications in smart fabrics and intelligent soft robotics.
