Advances in Colloidal Building Blocks: Toward Patchy Colloidal Clusters

You-Jin Kim et al.

Summary: Significant progress has been made in the synthesis and assembly of patchy colloidal clusters in recent years. These clusters, through a DNA-mediated interlocking process, can form directional bonding with specific rotation angles, and have potential applications in photonic crystals, metamaterials, topological photonic insulators, and separation membranes.

Partially Auxetic Properties of Face-Centered Cubic Hard-Sphere Crystals with Nanochannels of Different Sizes, Parallel to [001]-Direction and Filled by Other Hard Spheres

Jakub W. Narojczyk et al.

Summary: The study presents the results of Monte Carlo simulations on the effect of varying shapes of the periodic box on the elastic properties of FCC hard-sphere crystals with periodic inclusions. The results show that small differences in channel sizes, geometries, and diameter ratios of inclusion to matrix spheres can lead to significant differences in the elastic properties of the studied nanocomposite structures.

Metamaterials with enhanced mechanical properties and tuneable Poisson's ratio

Amer Alomarah et al.

Summary: This paper reports a structural modification of an auxetic metamaterial, namely a re-entrant chiral auxetic (RCA) metamaterial, to overcome its undesirable properties. Experimental and numerical studies confirmed the improved performance of the modified metamaterial in terms of anisotropic response, energy absorption, and Poisson's ratio. The modified metamaterial offers a wide range of potential applications.
