Construction of CoNiFe Trimetallic Carbonate Hydroxide Hierarchical Hollow Microflowers with Oxygen Vacancies for Electrocatalytic Water Oxidation

Yihao Liu et al.

Summary: A sequential self-templating method was used to synthesize CoNiFe trimetallic carbonate hydroxide hierarchical hollow microflowers with oxygen vacancies. These hollow microflowers exhibited high active-site exposure density and increased electrical conductivity due to their hollow structure, Fe substitution, and V-O. The optimized trimetallic carbonate hydroxide microflowers showed excellent performance in the oxygen evolution reaction with low overpotential and Tafel slope. Theoretical calculations revealed that Fe substitution and V-O could regulate the electronic states and achieve near-ideal adsorption/desorption capacity for oxygenated intermediates. The successful synthesis of other substituted carbonate hydroxides provides a general protocol to construct transition multimetallic electrocatalysts with hollow structures for highly efficient energy conversion reactions.

Ligand Modulation of Active Sites to Promote Electrocatalytic Oxygen Evolution

Wenzhong Huang et al.

Summary: This study proposes a feasible ligand modulation strategy to boost the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) catalytic activity of cobalt-iron oxyhydroxide ((Fe,Co)OOH). By reducing the orbital overlap between the Fe/Co 3d and O 2p, the adsorption to oxygen-containing intermediates is weakened, which facilitates the O-2 desorption. The ligand-modulated (Fe,Co)OOH exhibits excellent OER performance with low overpotentials and high durability.

Tuning the Charge Transport Property and Photocatalytic Activity of Anthracene-Based 1D π-d Conjugated Coordination Polymers by Interlayer Stacking

Denan Wang et al.

Summary: This study reports three novel one-dimensional π-d-conjugated coordination polymers (CCPs) and investigates the correlation between their structural parameters and photophysical and photocatalytic properties. The results demonstrate that altering the stacking of the polymer chains through structural modification impacts their crystallinity, charge separation, and charge transport property, ultimately affecting their photocatalytic performance for hydrogen evolution reaction.

Heterogeneous electrocatalysis goes chemical

Shannon W. Boettcher et al.

Summary: After a century of research on heterogeneous electrocatalysis, the specific mechanisms involved, particularly in the oxygen evolution reaction on IrOx, are still not fully understood. A new proposal suggests that the reaction is driven by changes in the redox state of the Ir-O active sites rather than changes in the interfacial electric field.
