Bipolar charge collecting structure enables overall water splitting on ferroelectric photocatalysts

Yong Liu et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a method to fabricate interfacial charge-collecting nanostructures on the positive and negative domains of a ferroelectric material, facilitating water splitting in ferroelectric photocatalysts. The study observes efficient accumulation of photogenerated electrons and holes around Au nanoparticles, located in the positive and negative domains of a BaTiO3 single crystal. Photocatalytic overall water splitting is achieved on a ferroelectric BaTiO3 single crystal after assembling oxidation and reduction cocatalysts on charged Au nanoparticles.

Approaches for enhancing the photocatalytic activities of barium titanate: A review

Gopal Panthi et al.

Summary: Barium titanate (BaTiO3) is a widely used photocatalyst in environmental applications due to its low-cost, chemical stability, and non-toxicity. However, the large band gap and recombination of photogenerated charge carriers limit its photocatalytic efficiency. Various strategies, such as controlling particle size and morphology, doping and loading with noble metals, and forming heterojunctions, have been proposed to modify the electronic band structure of BaTiO3 and enhance its photocatalytic activity.

Structural Details of BaTiO3 Nano-Powders Deduced from the Anisotropic XRD Peak Broadening

Iuliana Pasuk et al.

Summary: In this study, nano-BaTiO3 powders were synthesized using the solvothermal method at different reaction times and characterized by TEM, XRD, and Raman spectroscopy. The results showed that the structure parameters of nano-BTO did not exhibit phase transition up to 170 degrees C, and the line widths correlated with tetragonal deformations. The experimental results are consistent with the core-shell model for both nano-BTO and mezoscale-BTO.

Summary: This study investigated the point defects in BaTiO3 nanoparticles produced by flame spray pyrolysis, revealing the structural changes during annealing process at different temperatures, as well as the electron trapping phenomenon in polycrystalline particles at 1173K. These insights are crucial for understanding the performance of BaTiO3 nanoparticles as photocatalysts or dielectric components.
