Inspired by oxidative enzymes in nature, the all-solid-state Z-scheme photocatalyst shows oxygen insertion followed by elimination reaction, leading to the oxidatively cleavage of the beta-1,4-glycosidic bond and generation of gluconic acid and glucose. This research provides insights into a new mechanism for biomass conversion and offers potential for the design of efficient biomass photocatalysts.
