Effect of Powder ALD Interface Modification on the Thermoelectric Performance of Bismuth

Shiyang He et al.

Summary: This study introduces a strategy of interface modification based on powder atomic layer deposition to control and modify the phase boundary of pure bismuth, resulting in a substantial increase in thermoelectric performance and a significant decrease in thermal conductivity, with a maximum figure of merit of 0.15. This method shows great potential for practical application in developing high-performance thermoelectric materials.

Surface Modification of Bismuth by ALD of Antimony Oxide for Suppressing Lattice Thermal Conductivity

Shiyang He et al.

Summary: Surface modification with Sb2O5 thin films improves the performance of thermoelectric materials by reducing thermal conductivity and increasing zT values. The deposition of just 5 cycles of Sb2O5 layer results in a significant decrease in ictot and a 12% increase in maximum zT values.

High ZT in p-type thermoelectric (Bi,Sb)2Te3 with built-in nanopores

Hua-Lu Zhuang et al.

Summary: This study successfully improved the thermoelectric performance of (Bi,Sb)2Te3-based alloys by incorporating BiI3 and Zn as dopants. BiI3 introduced nanoscale pores that reduced thermal conductivity, while Zn improved electrical conductivity and prevented deterioration. The modulation of thermal and electrical transport properties significantly improved the ZT value.

Realize High Thermoelectric Properties in n-Type Bi2Te2.7Se0.3/Y2O3 Nanocomposites by Constructing Heterointerfaces

Qiujun Hu et al.

Summary: In this study, n-type Bi2Te2.7Se0.3 based thermoelectric materials incorporated with nanosized Y2O3 were prepared and studied, leading to significantly improved thermoelectric performance due to the multiscale interface modifications induced by the Y2O3 nanoparticles. The addition of Y2O3 NPs effectively reduced the thermal conductivity, increased the hardness, and maintained excellent thermoelectric properties in the entire operating temperature range. The strategy of high-density heterogeneous interfaces implemented by Y2O3 NP addition provides a feasible pathway for fabricating high-performance thermoelectric materials with optimized properties.

Porous bismuth antimony telluride alloys with excellent thermoelectric and mechanical properties

Peng Zhao et al.

Summary: Porous BiSbTe alloys with a porosity of ca. 0.15 were successfully prepared through sequential high-pressure synthesis, ball milling, and spark plasma sintering. These porous samples exhibit greatly enhanced thermoelectric and mechanical properties, with the optimal Bi0.42Sb1.58Te3 showing a maximum ZT of 1.27 and excellent mechanical strengths. The unique microstructure with closely bonded equiaxed grains and uniformly distributed pores promotes the development of porous thermoelectric materials.
