Passenger management strategy and evacuation in subway station under Covid-19

Xiao-Xia Yang et al.

Summary: In the context of the Covid-19 pandemic, implementing a safe and reasonable passenger flow management strategy in subway stations is crucial in preventing the spread of the virus. This study uses the social force model and minimum cost model to simulate the movement and path selection behavior of passengers in subway stations, and proposes a strategy to maintain a safe social distance. The simulation conducted in the Qingdao Jinggangshan Road subway station validates the effectiveness of the model. The results show that controlling the time interval between incoming passengers can effectively control social distance and reduce the risk of infection.

Selection of open or closed boundaries in a cellular automata model for heterogeneous non-lane-based traffic

Mohit Kumar Singh et al.

Summary: This study examines the impact of closed and open boundaries on the simulation results of non-lane-based traffic. The results show that open boundary simulations better reflect real-world observations, while closed boundary simulations demonstrate a smoother trend. The study also concludes that vehicle size does not affect the fundamental diagrams of traffic, unless other characteristics are considered.

Experiment, model, and simulation of the pedestrian flow around a training school classroom during the after-class period

Chuan-Zhi Xie et al.

Summary: This paper develops a fine grid cellular CA model to study pedestrian behaviors at a training school in China, focusing on the after-class period. The model accurately captures the effects of various behaviors on pedestrian movement and proposes strategies to enhance evacuation and operational efficiency. Numerical results show that the model matches reality well and the strategies can improve the school's efficiency.

Lane-design for mixed pedestrian flow in T-shaped passage

Yongxing Li et al.

Summary: This study focuses on reducing conflicts and improving efficiency in T-shaped passages by designing walking lanes for mixed pedestrian flow. A cellular automata model was developed to simulate the pedestrian flow with the lane-design, showing that pedestrian conflicts were reduced and passing efficiency was improved. The findings suggest that reasonable lane-design can provide technical support for the planning and design of pedestrian facilities.

Stochastic user equilibrium path planning for crowd evacuation at subway station based on social force model

Xiaoxia Yang et al.

Summary: Evacuation path of pedestrians at subway stations has a direct impact on evacuation efficiency and station service level. This study establishes a Fisk stochastic user equilibrium model considering congestion factors to assist in evacuation path planning. The model can effectively avoid bottleneck areas and dangerous situations. The results show that the model improves evacuation efficiency and reduces evacuation time.

Xiaoxia Yang et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a path planning method for the evacuation of passengers in subway stations based on multi-objective robust optimization, considering the objectives of shortest evacuation time, minimum total risk, and minimum total congestion cost. The NSGA-II algorithm is used to solve the model, and the method is validated using a case study in Qingdao, China. The results show that the proposed method can effectively guide passenger evacuation and improve safety in emergency situations.

Summary: This paper proposes a kinetic theory model of human crowds accounting for visual attention to study congestion in long-distance passages. By analyzing the movement characteristics of pedestrians and building a pedestrian flow model, the study validates the effectiveness of the model and demonstrates that using density and the proportion of VAS pedestrians as early warning indicators is effective for preventing congestion.

Fuzzy-theory-based pedestrian dynamics models for studying the waiting passenger distribution at the subway platform

Xiaoxia Yang et al.

Summary: This study proposes a waiting area choice model for passengers at the subway platform, which combines fuzzy logic theory and cellular automata model/social force model to predict the distribution of passengers. Through analysis of field investigation data, factors such as distance, number of passengers, and length of waiting areas are identified as influential factors for passenger choice behavior. Simulations are conducted to explore the effects of passenger attributes, stair attributes, and passable area size on waiting area choice behavior.

Verifying the applicability of a pedestrian simulation model to reproduce the effect of exit design on egress flow under normal and emergency conditions

Xiaomeng Shi et al.

Summary: This study verifies the applicability of a microscopic pedestrian simulation model in predicting crowd egress flow at narrow exits, finding that the model provides reasonable estimates under normal conditions but is less capable in emergency situations. Corner exits were found to be more efficient than middle exits, while the simulation did not accurately reproduce the effects of obstacles under emergency conditions.

Incentive-based experiments to characterize pedestrians' evacuation behaviors under limited visibility

Summary: This study investigates the use of monetary incentives to mimic different emergency levels and its impact on evacuation efficiency under limited visibility conditions. The results show that increasing incentive levels significantly reduce evacuation time and improve walking speed, as well as influence route choice. Improving incentive levels can reduce the randomness and hysteresis of participants' path and route selection decisions.
