Electrostatic fog collection mechanism and design of an electrostatic fog collector with nearly perfect fog collection efficiency

Yuan Jiang et al.

Summary: The corona discharge process in a wire-plate device under foggy condition is significantly influenced by charged microscale fog droplets in the air and macroscale droplets hanging on the electrodes. By designing a two-stage electrostatic fog collector with optimized electrode placement, a collection efficiency of over 90% can be achieved.

Fog Droplet Collection by Corona Discharge in a Needle-Cylinder Electrostatic Precipitator with a Water Cooling System

Hui Fu et al.

Summary: In this study, a needle-cylinder electrostatic precipitator with a water cooling system was designed to enhance the harvest of atmospheric water in wet flue gas. The effects of flow rate, temperature, and particles on the collection of fog droplets were investigated, and the energy efficiency of water collection was analyzed at different voltages. The results showed that the current decreased with increasing air relative humidity under the same voltage, while the breakdown voltage increased significantly. Increasing the residence time of fog droplets in the electric field by reducing the wet flue gas flow velocity improved the water collection efficiency. By decreasing the flue gas temperature and introducing particles in the wet gas, both the water collection rate and energy efficiency could be improved. However, with the increase of voltage, although the water collection rate increased, the energy efficiency decreased.

Numerical evaluation of thefog collection potential of electrostatically enhanced fog collector

Xiaohong Yan et al.

Summary: The study explores methods of enhancing the efficiency of conventional inertial-impaction fog collectors using corona discharge and electric fields, with the mechanism of droplet attraction and repulsion playing a key role in collection. The efficiency enhancement depends on electrode arrangement and design, highlighting the potential of electrostatic force in achieving efficient fog collection.
