Synergistic process using calcium peroxide and ferrous iron for enhanced ultrafiltration of Microcystis aeruginosa-laden water

Xiaoxiang Cheng et al.

Summary: The synergistic process using CaO2 and FeSO4 effectively enhances the UF performance for the treatment of Microcystis aeruginosa-laden water by increasing the removal of algal cells and organics. The formation of algal flocs through the synergism of CaO2 and FeSO4 increases the size of algal pollutants. The pretreatment with CaO2/FeSO4 also improves the flux of membranes and reduces fouling.

Integrated Model for Understanding N2O Emissions from Wastewater Treatment Plants: A Deep Learning Approach

Soonho Hwangbo et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the application of deep learning in quantitatively describing long-term data from a Danish wastewater treatment plant, with a focus on N2O emissions. The study successfully develops a deep neural network for process modeling and identifies key parameters contributing to high N2O emissions through global sensitivity analysis. Additionally, the study shows that a LSTM-based forecasting model outperforms a DNN-based model in predicting N2O emissions.

High-performance mixed-matrix membranes enabled by organically/inorganic modified montmorillonite for the treatment of hazardous textile wastewater

Ahmed Abdel-Karim et al.

Summary: In this study, a low pressure-driven ultrafiltration membrane was developed using cellulose acetate, alpha-aminophosphonate modified montmorillonite, and Ag-TiO2 nanoparticles, showing increased flux and reduced fouling rate compared to neat CA membrane. The fabricated membranes exhibited durability, high efficiency in treating textile wastewater, and adequate rejection for hazardous contaminants such as chromium, nickel, lead, and fluoride. Overall, fillers enhanced the hydrophilicity, mechanical stability, and performance of the membranes, showing potential for hazardous textile wastewater treatment.

Synergistic fouling behaviors and mechanisms of calcium ions and polyaluminum chloride associated with alginate solution in coagulation-ultrafiltration (UF) process

Ying Long et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of calcium ions and polyaluminum chloride on membrane fouling in the coagulation-ultrafiltration process, revealing synergistic effects between the two agents. By using density functional theory calculations and explaining the thermodynamic mechanisms, a theoretical explanation for such filtration behaviors was proposed.
