Multistage suspension roasting of refractory stone coal: Enhanced extraction based on decarburization and vanadium oxidation

Shuai Yuan et al.

Summary: An innovative multistage suspension roasting technology is proposed for vanadium leaching from stone coal. The results show that carbon removal of 53.13% is achieved in the first-stage roasting, accompanied by disruption of the vanadium-bearing mica lattice and production of dehydrogenated mica through the release of hydroxyl groups and vanadium. In the second-stage roasting, carbon is almost completely removed, and the mica structure is further destroyed and partially converted to feldspar. Under optimal conditions, the vanadium leaching rate increases from 20% using conventional technology to 51.42% using the presented technology.

Vanadium extraction from stone coal using a novel two-stage roasting technology

Zhidong Tang et al.

Summary: This study presents a two-stage roasting technology to enhance the leaching efficiency of vanadium. The effects of roasting factors on vanadium leaching rate and the mechanism of extracting vanadium from stone coal were investigated. XRD analysis was used to analyze the phase transformation of minerals during roasting, while SEM, EDS, and BET analysis were used to study microstructure changes. The results showed that the two-stage roasting technology achieved a vanadium leaching recovery of 80.26% under optimal conditions. This study confirms that the two-stage roasting technology is a more environmentally friendly and effective method for extracting vanadium from stone coal.
