Enhanced reductive debromination of decabromodiphenyl ether by organic-attapulgite supported Fe/Pd nanoparticles: Synergetic effect and mechanism

Zongtang Liu et al.

Summary: Nanoscale zerovalent iron (nZVI) is an important technology for the effective removal of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), but the agglomeration and low persistence catalytic activity of nZVI particles need to be improved. This study introduces a new organo-attapulgite supported Fe/Pd nanoparticles (OA-Fe/Pd) composite, which shows a significantly higher reaction rate in the removal of decabromodiphenyl ether (BDE209) compared to nZVI, due to the synergetic effect of the support material OA and Pd loading.

ZIF-8-derived photocatalyst membrane for water decontamination: From static adsorption-degradation to dynamic flow removal

Yanying He et al.

Summary: Photocatalysis is a promising method for environmental purification. However, the low recyclability and energy-intensive operation of powder nanomaterials limit their large-scale application. This study integrates and deposits photocatalysts on monolithic substrates to solve these issues. The ZIF-8 photocatalyst membrane and its derived ZnS photocatalyst demonstrated excellent photocatalytic removal efficiencies under visible light irradiation. The study also explored the degradation pathway and photocatalytic mechanisms, and proposed the advantages and implications of the prepared photocatalyst membranes for photocatalytic water treatment.

Defect- and nitrogen-rich porous carbon embedded with Co NPs derived from self-assembled Co-ZIF-8 @ anionic polyacrylamide network as PMS activator for highly efficient removal of tetracycline hydrochloride from water

Baolv Hua et al.

Summary: The design of N-doped carbon-based nanomaterials for efficient heterogeneous activation of peroxymonosulfate (PMS) for environmental remediation has drawn the attention of researchers. In this study, N-doped porous carbon-encapsulated Co nanoparticles were successfully prepared by pyrolyzing the zeolite imidazolium framework (Co-ZIF-8) @ anionic polyacrylamide (APAM) network composite. The obtained nanomaterials showed excellent efficiency and stability in breaking down tetracycline hydrochloride (TC center dot HCl) using activated PMS. The CZA-1000/PMS system achieved a separation efficiency of 99.8% within 30 minutes.

Compositional evolution of nanoscale zero valent iron and 2,4-dichloro-phenol during dechlorination by attapulgite supported Fe/Ni nanoparticles

Emmanuella Anang et al.

Summary: The study found that nFe(0) undergoes transformation during the reaction with chloro-organics, resulting in the formation of different iron oxides, and 2,4-DCP is rapidly dechlorinated to 2-CP, 4-CP, and phenol. Without the support of Ni and attapulgite, the transformation of nFe(0) and dechlorination of 2,4-DCP were not significantly achieved.
