Non-evaporative solvent extraction technology applied to water and heat recovery from low-temperature flue gas: Parametric analysis and feasibility evaluation

Hao Zhang et al.

Summary: The performance of solution absorption systems in recovering water and heat from low temperature flue gas is greatly influenced by the energy consumption during the solution regeneration process. This paper explores the feasibility of using solvent extraction technology with high-concentration CaCl2 solution as liquid desiccant and investigates three types of amines for water extraction. The results showed that diisopropylamine had the highest water recovery efficiency, while N,N-dimethylcyclohexylamine had the highest salt removal efficiency. The influence of stirring intensity and volume ratio on water recovery performance was also studied. Simulation results demonstrated that the energy consumption of the solvent extraction method was reduced compared to the evaporative regeneration method. A coefficient of performance (COP) of 1.71 was achieved in the novel solution absorption system.

Mextral® 6103H/naphthenic acid/TOPO synergistic extraction system for recovery of nickel and cobalt from nickel laterite

Zhi-gang Xu et al.

Summary: The combination of alpha-hydroxyoxime and carboxylic acids provides an effective method for the extraction and separation of nickel and cobalt. However, the slow nickel stripping kinetics hinder its practical application. In this study, the addition of trioctylphosphine oxide (TOPO) as an accelerator significantly improved the nickel stripping kinetics. The use of TOPO in conjunction with Mextral 6103H/naphthenic acid system resulted in a high stripping efficiency of nickel. The extraction pH isotherms showed selective extraction of copper, cobalt, and nickel, while minimizing the co-extraction of manganese, magnesium, and calcium.
