Multi-angle comparison of UV/chlorine, UV/monochloramine, and UV/chlorine dioxide processes for water treatment and reuse

Jing Zhao et al.

Summary: Advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) such as UV/chlorine, UV/monochloramine (UV/NH2Cl), and UV/chlorine dioxide (UV/ClO2) were compared in terms of reactive species generation, micropollutant degradation, byproduct formation, and toxicity change. The study found that UV/chlorine generated the most radicals, while UV/ClO2 produced the highest concentration of ozone. The order of formation and toxicity of organic byproducts was consistent among the AOPs, while the toxicity associated with inorganic byproducts varied.
