Toward Controllable Wet Etching of Monocrystalline Silicon: Roles of Mechanically Driven Defects

Lei Wu et al.

Summary: This study systematically investigates the roles of mechanically driven defects in wet etching and reveals the antietching role of mechanically driven amorphous Si (a-Si) and the promoting etching role of distorted Si. Selective etching mechanisms for each defect are addressed based on the proposed dissolution model.

Rapid and flexible construction of inverted silicon architectures with nanogaps as high-performance SERS substrates

Lei Wu et al.

Summary: This study reports a cost-effective and flexible method for fabricating 3D inverted silicon structures for SERS applications. The optimal fabrication process of inverted Si architecture was determined through finite difference time-domain simulations, and the sensitivity and reproducibility of the prepared substrates were demonstrated by SERS detection. Additionally, this method was successfully applied to detect residues in different water environments as well as fish tissues and scales.

Scanning probe-based nanolithography: nondestructive structures fabricated on silicon surface via distinctive anisotropic etching in HF/HNO3 mixtures

Lei Wu et al.

Summary: A fast and anisotropic etching method using HF/HNO3 mixtures was proposed to prepare nanostructures by friction-induced hillock formation and subsequent etching, with optimized fabrication parameters. Lowering the average dangling bond density delayed the breakup of Si-H bonds and Si-Si backbonds, leading to defect-free nanostructures fabricated by anisotropic etching.

Ultraselective Monovalent Metal Ion Conduction in a Three-Dimensional Sub-1 nm Nanofluidic Device Constructed by Metal- Organic Frameworks

Jun Lu et al.

Summary: A three-dimensional sub-1 nm nanofluidic device was developed to achieve high monovalent metal ion selectivity and conductivity, with an ultrahigh K+/Mg2+ selectivity up to 1554.9. This high metal ion selectivity is attributed to factors such as size exclusion, charge selectivity, and ion binding in the negatively charged MOF channels, showing potential for ultimate ion separation and energy conversion in diverse MOF-based nanofluidic devices.

Effects of crystal planes on topography evolution of silicon surface during nanoscratch-induced selective etching

Lei Wu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the evolution of surface morphology on Si crystal planes during nano-scratch induced selective etching using different etchants. The results show that subsurface deformation induced by nano-scratching can lead to either protrusive hillocks or sunken grooves, depending on the crystal plane orientation and etchant used. Understanding this process is important for defect detection on Si surfaces and nano-fabrication based on scanning probe microscopes.
