Enhanced NO2 sensitivity of SnO2 SAW gas sensors by facet engineering

Licheng Zhou et al.

Summary: The researchers developed a novel strategy to prepare SnO2 quantum wires with different (110) facets ratio, and integrated them into SAW devices to optimize gas sensor performance. The response of the SAW gas sensor was enhanced with a frequency change of 17 kHz, and the response and recovery times were 45 s and 96 s, respectively. The mass loading effect was found to be the responsible mechanism for the superior NO2 gas sensing performances, and the (110) facet of SnO2 was found to be more beneficial for NO2 adsorption.

Volatile organic compounds gas sensor based on quartz crystal microbalance for fruit freshness detection: A review

Kewei Liu et al.

Summary: This review article provides an overview of gas sensors based on quartz crystal microbalance for fruit freshness detection, focusing mainly on research on respiration climacteric fruits and discussing the sensitive materials based on physical/chemical adsorption mechanisms. The characteristics of fruits' respiratory intensity at the stage of ripening are considered for dividing fruits into respiration climacteric and non-climacteric categories.

Amine Detection Using Organic Field Effect Transistor Gas Sensors

Panagiotis Mougkogiannis et al.

Summary: Low power gas sensors based on organic field effect transistors fabricated in bottom-gate bottom-contact configuration show high sensitivity and selectivity towards alkylamines and ammonia, with low detection limits. A model based on the Antoine equation allows for the empirical prediction of sensor sensitivity and selectivity to various analytes.

Nanoarchitectured porous carbons derived from ZIFs toward highly sensitive and selective QCM sensor for hazardous aromatic vapors

Nagy L. Torad et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the preparation of various nanoporous carbons by carbothermal treatment of ZIF crystals under different gas atmospheres, and investigates their sensitivity and selectivity towards volatile aromatic compounds. The growth of hairy graphitic-like CNTs on the surface of CNT-rich NPCs acts as highly selective sensing antennae for the discrimination of toxic aromatic hydrocarbons. Despite increased selectivity, the sacrifice of surface area in CNT-rich NPCs derived from certain ZIFs limits their potential applications in gas sensing.

Statistical shape analysis pre-processing of temperature modulated metal oxide gas sensor response for machine learning improved selectivity of gases detection in real atmospheric conditions

Valeriy V. Krivetskiy et al.

Summary: Development of new signal processing approaches is crucial for enhancing the reliability of metal oxide gas sensor performance in real atmospheric conditions. Advantages of statistical shape analysis (SSA) method over other signal pre-processing techniques have been demonstrated, showing improved detection selectivity for chemically related gases such as methane and propane. The proposed data preprocessing algorithm has shown less sensitivity to sensor response and baseline drift compared to other methods, even during extended periods of continuous operation with periods of inactivity.

Sorption-induced static mode nanomechanical sensing with viscoelastic receptor layers for multistep injection-purge cycles

Kosuke Minami et al.

Summary: Nanomechanical sensors and arrays attract attention for detecting, distinguishing, and identifying target analytes. An analytical model of viscoelastic material-based nanomechanical sensing is derived by extending the theoretical model and solving differential equations with recurrence relations. The model accurately predicts entire signal responses by extracting viscoelastic properties of materials and concentrations of analytes.
