Sensory integration therapy for children with autism and sensory processing difficulties: the SenITA RCT

Elizabeth Randell et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the clinical effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of sensory integration therapy for children with autism. The results showed that while sensory integration therapy did not significantly improve problem behaviors in children at 6 and 12 months, it did have short-term effects in some subgroups. Additionally, the therapy had positive effects on carer stress and goal performance, but was not cost-effective in terms of health economics.

Physiotherapy as a Specific and Purposeful Form of Physical Activity in Children with Idiopathic Body Asymmetry

Jacek Wilczynski et al.

Summary: The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between idiopathic asymmetry in infants and body posture in children at an early school age. The results showed that despite physiotherapy, children with asymmetry had more postural defects compared to the control group. These defects mainly involved pelvic skewness, scoliosis angle, deviation from the vertical line, lateral deviation, and surface rotation. Positive correlations were found between direction of asymmetry and pelvic skewness, as well as between the location of asymmetry and the location of curvature.

Postural mechanisms in moderate-to-severe cerebral palsy

Adam Goodworth et al.

Summary: The study used a support system to experiment the postural control mechanisms, showing that individuals with moderate-to-severe cerebral palsy may adopt a simple control system with significant sensorimotor noise. Compared to healthy adults, they exhibit lower damping and larger corrective torque relative to body size.

Reaction to the sensory integration therapy in children with postural stability deficits

Janusz Maciaszek et al.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the impact of sensory integration therapy (SIT) on postural stability in children with deficits. Results showed that SIT significantly improved one leg standing skills, especially with eyes open or closed. The therapy group demonstrated greater improvements compared to the control group post-treatment.
