Steady-State Visual Evoked Potential-Based Brain-Computer Interface Using a Novel Visual Stimulus with Quick Response (QR) Code Pattern

Nannaphat Siribunyaphat et al.

Summary: This study proposes two SSVEP improvements to enhance the accuracy and reduce visual fatigue in brain-computer interface (BCI) systems. The first improvement involves modifying the flicker pattern to increase SSVEP response, while the second improvement utilizes QR code visual stimulus patterns to enhance SSVEP response and minimize visual fatigue. The results demonstrate that QR code patterns outperform the checkerboard patterns in terms of accuracy, and low-frequency QR code patterns can alleviate visual fatigue.

Past, Present, and Future of EEG-Based BCI Applications

Kaido Varbu et al.

Summary: An EEG-based BCI system interprets EEG signals to establish a connection between the brain and external devices. Originally developed for medical purposes, these applications have expanded to improve the lives of healthy individuals as well. This review provides a systematic overview of the literature on EEG-based BCI applications from 2009 to 2019, analyzing the distribution of research in medical and non-medical domains, equipment used, signal processing methods, and current challenges and future possibilities.

Brain-computer interface robotics for hand rehabilitation after stroke: a systematic review

Paul Dominick E. Baniqued et al.

Summary: Hand rehabilitation is crucial for helping stroke survivors regain daily living activities, with recent studies showing the potential of using BCI-robot systems. A systematic examination of literature revealed significant improvements in motor assessment scores for chronic and subacute stroke patients using BCI-hand robots. In conclusion, there is a need for a standardized protocol in assessing technical and clinical outcomes for the development of a solid evidence base on efficiency and efficacy.
