A Mass-Producible Washable Smart Garment with Embedded Textile EMG Electrodes for Control of Myoelectric Prostheses: A Pilot Study

Milad Alizadeh-Meghrazi et al.

Summary: This study developed textile electrodes as an alternative to traditional gel electrodes for recording electromyography (EMG) signals, and compared their performance and washability. The results showed that the textile electrodes performed comparably to gel electrodes in signal recording, and were able to successfully control a myoelectric prosthetic hand.

Reducing the number of EMG electrodes during online hand gesture classification with changing wrist positions

Luis Pelaez Murciego et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of channel configuration on hand gesture recognition performance and finds that changing wrist position can affect the accuracy of gesture classification. By selecting the appropriate number and placement of channels, the number of channels required can be substantially reduced without sacrificing performance.

Evaluating the Effect of Textile Material and Structure for Printable and Wearable e-Textiles

Abiodun O. Komolafe et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the reduction of interface layer thickness in printed e-textile devices, finding that using fabrics with high polyester content can significantly reduce the thickness of the interface layer and decrease the proportion of interface material to fabric thickness in printed e-textiles.

Intuitive real-time control strategy for high-density myoelectric hand prosthesis using deep and transfer learning

Simon Tam et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a real-time control strategy for myoelectric hand prostheses that emphasizes intuitive and responsive control using surface high-density electromyography and a convolutional neural network. The system achieves reliable gesture recognition in real-time testing, with positive predictive values exceeding 93% and low latency. The use of transfer learning significantly reduces setup time, making the system user-friendly and efficient.

Exploring the Relationship Between EMG Feature Space Characteristics and Control Performance in Machine Learning Myoelectric Control

Andreas W. Franzke et al.

Summary: In myoelectric machine learning-based control, real-time performance improves with training while offline performance and EMG metrics remain unchanged. There is only a very low correlation found between separability and real-time performance, and no correlation between any other EMG metric and real-time performance. Additionally, real-time performance cannot be successfully predicted from all EMG metrics using L2-regularized linear regression.
