Thigh loaded wearable resistance increases sagittal plane rotational work of the thigh resulting in slower 50-m sprint times

Paul Macadam et al.

Summary: This study investigated the immediate effects of thigh attached wearable resistance on rotational work during sprinting. The findings showed that the resistance increased sprint times and led to small changes in thigh angular displacement and velocity. However, it significantly increased rotational work during all phases of the sprint.

Accuracy of Inertial Measurement Units When Applied to the Countermovement Jump of Track and Field Athletes

Paulo Miranda-Oliveira et al.

Summary: The aim of this study was to assess the countermovement jump (CMJ) using an instrument developed with an off-the-shelf Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) and analyze its performance during the contraction phase. The results showed that the developed instrument had high accuracy and correlation with a force plate (FP) for various parameters, such as contraction time, negative impulse phase time, flight time, jump time, reactive strength index (RSImod), and minimum force. However, the accuracy of values related to the positive impulse phase was not as expected.

Examination of a foot mounted IMU-based methodology for a running gait assessment

Fraser Young et al.

Summary: Gait assessment is crucial for understanding injury prevention mechanisms in running. Previous zero-crossing based methods show good performance in assessing gait at medium to low speeds, but degrade in higher speeds.

Comparison of the accuracy of a free 3D camera system with the Ariel performance system

Paulo Miranda-Oliveira et al.

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate the accuracy and time-consuming of the automatic digitalization feature of 3D motion analysis systems, as well as the reliability of 3D position when a football player performed a hard kick with spin. The results showed good accuracy of automatic digitalization and high Intra-Class Correlation, making it suitable for free-kick analysis.
