Ratiometric and colorimetric detection of Cu2+ via the oxidation of benzodihydroquinoline derivatives and related synthetic methodology

Waroton Paisuwan et al.

Summary: Cu2+ is a serious environmental contamination concern and can cause metal poisoning in the human body, leading to Wilson's disease. In this study, a novel Cu2+ sensor based on a Boc-benzodihydroquinoline derivative (BBHQ) was developed. BBHQ exhibited fluorescence and showed remarkable ratiometric fluorescence in the presence of Cu2+. The sensing system demonstrated linear relationship between BBHQ fluorescence intensity and Cu2+ concentration, and it could also be used for efficient synthesis of pyridine and quinoline derivatives.

Synthesis of α-trifluoromethyl piperidine derivatives from tetrahydropyridines via nucleophilic trifluoromethylation of pyridinium cations

Armando Talavera-Aleman et al.

Summary: The synthesis of α-trifluoromethyl piperidines from tetrahydropyridine derivatives involves three steps: oxidation, nucleophilic trifluoromethylation, and hydrogenation. The trifluoromethylation step shows moderate-to-high regioselectivity, occurring at the less hindered side of the pyridinium intermediate. This method has also been successfully applied to the direct trifluoromethylation of a piperidine derivative.

A distance-based paper sensor for rapid detection of blood lactate concentration using gold nanoparticles synthesized by Satureja hortensis

Younes Mirzaei et al.

Summary: The study presents a rapid and user-friendly method for monitoring blood lactate concentration using a paper strip coated with gold nanoparticles. By representing changes in lactate concentration as a column of colored bars on the paper substrate, linear calibration is achieved within the range of 1.0 to 30.0 mM. The detection limits for lactate measurements are found to be 0.6 and 0.47 using different measurement methods.

Chichibabin/isoChichibabin pyridinium synthesis of ma'edamines C and D

Mika Hirose et al.

Summary: Ma'edamines C and D were isolated from an Okinawan marine sponge with a unique tetrasubstituted pyridinium skeleton. The first total synthesis of Ma'edamines C and D was achieved via Pr(OTf)3-promoted Chichibabin/isoChichibabin pyridinium synthesis starting from corresponding aldehydes and amine. This synthetic pathway could be used for compounds with similar tetrasubstituted pyridinium skeleton.

A turn on fluorometric and colorimetric probe based on vinylphenol-BODIPY for selective detection of Au(III) ion in solution and in living cells

Suthikorn Jantra et al.

Summary: In this study, a borondipyrromethene-based fluorescent and colorimetric probe was explored for the selective detection of Au3+. The probe displayed colorimetric and fluorometric changes in aqueous medium with a detection limit of 0.0094 mu M, and was successfully applied for monitoring intracellular Au3+ in living cells through fluorescence imaging. The oxidation mechanism of the probe was confirmed by mass spectroscopy experiment.
