Stress granule-associated TaMBF1c confers thermotolerance through regulating specific mRNA translation in wheat (Triticum aestivum)

Xuejun Tian et al.

Summary: The TaMBF1c gene plays a crucial role in regulating heat stress response in wheat by affecting the translation of specific genes. It is evolutionarily conserved in various wheat species and is closely associated with the translation of heat shock proteins, providing a potential target for improving heat tolerance in wheat breeding programs.

Liquid-liquid phase separation of RBGD2/4 is required for heat stress resistance in Arabidopsis

Shaobo Zhu et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the role of protein liquid-liquid phase separation (LLPS) in the heat stress response in plants by discovering the LLPS of two RNA-binding proteins, RBGD2 and RBGD4. The findings suggest that manipulation of protein LLPS could be a strategy to improve plant stress resistance.

The Interplay Between Disordered Regions in RNAs and Proteins Modulates Interactions Within Stress Granules and Processing Bodies

Andrea Vandelli et al.

Summary: Condensation, or liquid-like phase separation, is an important phenomenon for the spatiotemporal regulation of molecules within the cell. Recent studies have shown that components of phase-separated organelles like Stress Granules (SGs) and Processing Bodies (PBs) exhibit high variability and dynamics in their composition and molecular organization. The formation of SGs and PBs is regulated by a dense contact network involving both RNAs and proteins, and the molecular architecture of these organelles is not yet fully understood.

Identification and functional annotation of long intergenic non-coding RNAs in Brassicaceae

Kyle Palos et al.

Summary: In this study, the researchers identified and functionally annotated long intergenic noncoding RNAs (lincRNAs) in four plant species. They used a large amount of RNA-seq data to identify over 130,000 lincRNAs in Arabidopsis thaliana, Camelina sativa, Brassica rapa, and Eutrema salsugineum. The researchers characterized these lincRNAs using various methods and identified conserved motifs. Additionally, they used comparative genomics and transcriptomics to highlight lincRNAs with sequence or transcriptional conservation and assigned putative functions using guilt-by-association analyses.

2′,3′-cAMP treatment mimics the stress molecular response in Arabidopsis thaliana

Monika Chodasiewicz et al.

Summary: The role of the RNA degradation product 2',3'-cAMP in plants is poorly understood. Recent studies have shown that 2',3'-cAMP levels increase under stress conditions and it promotes stress granule assembly. Using a multi-omics approach, researchers discovered that 2',3'-cAMP is metabolized into adenosine in plants, suggesting a similar pathway to that in human cells. The treatment with 2',3'-cAMP resulted in changes in transcripts, proteins, and metabolites associated with plant stress responses and also affected the movement of processing bodies.

Reversible amyloids of pyruvate kinase couple cell metabolism and stress granule disassembly

Gea Cereghetti et al.

Summary: The glycolytic metabolite fructose-1,6-bisphosphate is able to initiate the disassembly of inactive amyloids formed by Cdc19 during stress, leading to the restoration of ATP production and disassembly of stress granules (SGs) in yeast cells. This mechanism directly links cellular metabolism with SG dynamics, and plays a critical role in stress recovery by promoting Cdc19 re-solubilization and enhancing ATP production.

Plant Stress Granules: Trends and Beyond

Israel Maruri-Lopez et al.

Summary: Stress granules (SGs) are dynamic membrane-less condensates formed through liquid-liquid phase separation (LLPS) in response to stress, with a biphasic structure consisting of core and shell components. The core is composed of proteins with intrinsically disordered regions and RNA-binding domains, while the shell contains species-specific components like metabolic enzymes and transcription factors. SGs play a crucial role in cellular response to stress and post-stress recovery, and their disassembly after stress allows for the reactivation of translation and cell growth.
