Animal-derived plant biostimulant alleviates drought stress by regulating photosynthesis, osmotic adjustment, and antioxidant systems in tomato plants

Weixuan Wang et al.

Summary: The application of a new pig blood-derived protein hydrolysate (PP) was found to significantly enhance tomato tolerance to drought stress by regulating stomatal aperture, chloroplast structures, osmotic alteration, and antioxidant systems. This study demonstrates that protein hydrolysates derived from animal proteins can serve as effective and environmentally friendly plant biostimulants for improving plant performance under drought stress.

Biostimulants on Crops: Their Impact under Abiotic Stress Conditions

Giulia Franzoni et al.

Summary: Biostimulants are agronomic tools that can reduce fertilizer applications and improve crop yield. Molecular studies help understand the mechanisms of biostimulants, and omics studies provide overall evaluation of crop response and performance.

An integrated plant nutrition system (IPNS) for corn in the Mid-Atlantic USA

Jose Franco Da Cunha Leme Filho et al.

Summary: Current trends in agriculture are moving towards more sustainable cultivation systems with higher efficiency of input use, including the Integrated Plant Nutrition System (IPNS) that combines inorganic, organic, and biological nutrient resources. This study evaluated the effects of different nutrient sources on corn growth and found that the combined use of humic acid compounds and biofertilizer influenced corn height and vigor, but the overall impact on grain yield was inconclusive.

Increased soybean tolerance to water deficiency through biostimulant based on fulvic acids and Ascophyllum nodosum (L.) seaweed extract

Vanessa Rosario Rosa et al.

Summary: This study identified the most efficient biostimulant formulation and dosage in promoting soybean plant recovery after water deficit stress. The application of biostimulant led to increased plant growth, photosynthetic rates, and antioxidant enzyme activities, enhancing soybean tolerance to water deficit and reducing yield losses. The best results were achieved with formulation 2 of the biostimulant at a dosage of 0.25 kg ha(-1).

Algae biostimulants: A critical look at microalgal biostimulants for sustainable agricultural practices

Rahul Vijay Kapoore et al.

Summary: Sustaining the growing human population during climate changes requires enhanced crop quality and quantity for global food security. Transitioning to a bio-based economy through sustainable circular economy and biorefinery approaches is crucial. While macroalgae biostimulants have been well explored, commercial implementation of microalgal biostimulants is constrained by lack of research and high production costs.

Effect of biostimulants on morpho-physiological traits of various ecotypes of fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum L.) under water deficit stress

Roghayeh Aminian Dehkordi et al.

Summary: The study found that applying biostimulants can mitigate the negative impact of water deficit on crops. Both arbuscular mycorrhiza fungi (AMF) and seaweeds extract (SWE) have positive effects on plant growth characteristics, with the Qazvin ecotype performing best when treated with AMF.
