Myocardial toxicity induced by silica nanoparticles in a transcriptome profile

Xinying Zhao et al.

Summary: Research has shown that exposure to SiNPs can lead to myocardial injury, particularly through the PKA-calcium signaling pathway, affecting biological processes and pathways such as cellular stress, energy metabolism, actin filament dynamics, and immune response. This study provides insights into the transcriptomic role of PKA in SiNPs-induced cardiac injury, facilitating the assessment of nanosafety and the development of biomedicine.

Summary: Scientific production on SiNP has shown exponential growth in understanding their chemical and physical characteristics, yet there remains limited information on their ecotoxicity. Particle functionalization plays a key role in reducing SiNP toxicity, and further studies are needed to explore long-term exposures and environmentally relevant concentrations.

Ndufs1 Deficiency Aggravates the Mitochondrial Membrane Potential Dysfunction in Pressure Overload-Induced Myocardial Hypertrophy

Rongjun Zou et al.

Summary: Mitochondrial dysfunction, specifically Ndufs1 deficiency, has been shown to play a key role in pressure overload-induced cardiac hypertrophy. Mechanistic studies indicate that downregulation of Ndufs1 may lead to mitochondrial dysfunction in cardiomyocytes, contributing to the development and progression of CH.

Loss of COX4I1 Leads to Combined Respiratory Chain Deficiency and Impaired Mitochondrial Protein Synthesis

Kristyna Cunatova et al.

Summary: The study reveals that in the OXPHOS system localized in the inner mitochondrial membrane, interconnected complexes form supercomplexes to maintain ATP production. Deficiencies in cytochrome c oxidase (cIV) or cytochrome bc1 complex (cIII) affect the formation and maintenance of NADH dehydrogenase (cI). Experimental evidence confirms the interdependency between cI and cIV.

Oxidative stress- and mitochondrial dysfunction-mediated cytotoxicity by silica nanoparticle in lung epithelial cells from metabolomic perspective

Xinying Zhao et al.

Summary: Our study investigated the metabolic responses of lung bronchial epithelial cells (BEAS-2B) under silica nanoparticles (SiNPs) exposure using UPLC-MS-based metabolomics research. The results showed that even with low cytotoxicity, SiNPs disturbed global metabolism and perturbed five metabolic pathways, leading to oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, DNA damage, and membrane integrity rupture in BEAS-2B cells. This study provided novel insights into the mechanisms underlying SiNPs-induced pulmonary toxicity.
