New insights into the capture performance and mechanism of hazardous metals Cr3+ and Cd2+ onto an effective layered double hydroxide based material

Sidi Zhu et al.

Summary: The phosphonate functionalized layered double hydroxide proved to be an excellent adsorbent for capturing toxicant metal ions, with a maximum adsorption capacity dominated by chemisorption and monolayer interaction. In addition, the spent adsorbent showed satisfactory reusability after multiple cycles, and Forcite simulation suggested electrostatic interaction as a critical mechanism for modifiers and the surface sites of the interlayer.

Exploration of adsorption mechanism of 2-phosphonobutane-1,2,4-tricarboxylic acid onto kaolinite and montmorillonite via batch experiment and theoretical studies

Sidi Zhu et al.

Summary: By conducting batch control experiments and theoretical studies, it was found that clay minerals with different crystal structures, kaolinite and montmorillonite, have different adsorption characteristics towards 2-phosphonobutane-1,2,4-tricarboxylic acid (PBTC). Molecular dynamic simulations and density functional theory analyses provided consistent results, enhancing our understanding of the adsorption mechanisms at the interface of different clay minerals.

Superlubricity under ultrahigh contact pressure enabled by partially oxidized black phosphorus nanosheets

Xiaoyong Ren et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that robust liquid superlubricity can be achieved even under ultrahigh contact pressure by lubricating with partially oxidized black phosphorus nanosheets. The nanosheets absorb water molecules, forming a friction pair interface and contributing to stable superlubricity under ultrahigh contact pressure. This work has the potential to introduce the concept of liquid superlubricity in diverse industrial applications with high-contact-pressure operating conditions.
