Roles of biochar in cement-based stabilization/solidification of municipal solid waste incineration fly ash

Liang Chen et al.

Summary: The study showed that adding biochar to the binder increased the stabilization/solidification efficiency of MSWI fly ash, enhanced the immobilization efficiency of hazardous elements, and maintained the mechanical stability of the solidified blocks.

Comparison of MSWI fly ash from grate-type and circulating fluidized bed incinerators under landfill leachate corrosion scenarios: the long-term leaching behavior and speciation of heavy metals

Ling Long et al.

Summary: The long-term leaching behaviors of heavy metals in municipal solid waste incineration fly ash samples from GT and CFB incinerators were compared under a simulated landfill leachate corrosion scenario, which was found to be more severe than acid rain corrosion. Total heavy metal contents showed increasing hierarchies of Ni.

Designing novel magnesium oxysulfate cement for stabilization/solidification of municipal solid waste incineration fly ash

Lei Wang et al.

Summary: An innovative magnesium oxysulfate cement binder was designed for stabilization/solidification of MSWI fly ash, showing excellent immobilization efficiencies for Pb and As. The study found that reactive Si in MSWI fly ash interfered with the MOSC reaction and adversely influenced the immobilization efficiencies of Pb, As, and other elements.

Utilisation of municipal solid waste incinerator (MSWI) fl y ash with metakaolin for preparation of alkali-activated cementitious material

Jun Liu et al.

Summary: The application of alkali-activation technology to prepare alkali-activated MSWIFA material holds potential to immobilize heavy metals and enhance its pozzolanic property for manufacturing building material. Adding metakaolin in AAFA significantly improves compressive strength, with the addition of sodium silicate increasing strength further. AAFA and AAFM successfully suppress leaching behaviors of certain metals to meet Chinese standards.
