Denitrification performance and microbial community of bioreactor packed with PHBV/PLA/rice hulls composite

Lin Xia et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that PPRH composite as a carbon source could effectively remove nitrate at natural pH and room temperature, with continuous flow experiments showing high removal efficiency even under high load conditions. Microbial community analysis indicated that bacteria of the genus Diaphorobacter played a significant role in denitrification.

Mixotrophic denitrification using pyrite and biodegradable polymer composite as electron donors

Yunmeng Pang et al.

Summary: This study investigated a novel mixotrophic system using pyrite and biodegradable polymer composite as electron donors. Results showed that the mixotrophic system had a higher nitrate removal rate compared to the single heterotrophic and autotrophic systems. XPS analysis identified the formation of sulfur compounds and iron compounds on the pyrite surface during mixotrophic operation. Microbial function analysis revealed the enrichment of genes involved in sulfur oxidation, denitrification, and carbon fixation in the mixotrophic system.

Network-directed isolation of the cooperator Pseudomonas aeruginosa ZM03 enhanced the dibutyl phthalate degradation capacity of Arthrobacter nicotianae ZM05 under pH stress

Xuejun Wang et al.

Summary: DBP contamination decreases microbial community diversity and weakens potential interactions between microorganisms. DBP shifts the interactions between strain ZM05 and other microbes, and nondegrading bacterium Pseudomonas aeruginosa ZM03 has a positive interaction with strain ZM05 during DBP degradation under pH stress.

Ecological Linkages between a Biofilm Ecosystem and Reactor Performance: The Specificity of Biofilm Development Phases

Shasha Yuan et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that different ecological processes exist at different stages of biofilm development, where interspecific cooperation plays a key role in the initial formation and rapid development of biofilms, while interspecific competition predominantly occurs in the mature stage. These processes are crucial for understanding the linkages between development and function in biofilm-based treatment processes.
