Emission and spatialized health risks for trace elements from domestic coal burning in China

Qin Yan et al.

Summary: A real-time monitoring platform for residential coal combustion emission was established, providing hourly emission factors for 18 types of TEs from different types of coals burned in China. The study found that the emission of TEs is influenced by combustion conditions, with some elements showing higher emissions during nighttime burning.

Water-soluble matter in PM 2.5 in a coastal city over China: Chemical components, optical properties, and source analysis *

Yanan Zhan et al.

Summary: In this study, the chemical composition of PM2.5 in Qingdao, China during winter was analyzed. The analysis showed that mobile sources, especially vehicle exhaust and coal combustion, played a significant role in local pollutants emission. By using excitation-emission matrix fluorescence spectroscopy and parallel factor analysis model, the components of water-soluble atmospheric chromophores were identified, and it was found that terrestrial organic matters were the main source. The results of this study provide a comprehensive understanding of the chemical and optical properties of water-soluble organic compounds in coastal areas, which may contribute to improving local air quality.

Impact of sand and dust storms on the atmospheric environment and its source in Tianjin-China

Lilai Song et al.

Summary: Sand and dust storms frequently hit northern China, causing adverse impacts on the environment and health. This study conducted measurements and analysis of severe sand and dust storm episodes in Tianjin, revealing that the main source of these episodes was Inner Mongolia and Mongolia. The study provides multiple pieces of evidence for dust source identification and characterizes the most severe sand and dust storm episodes in Tianjin during Spring 2021.

Characteristics of water-soluble ions in condensable particulate matter emitted from stationary sources in Wuhan

Chang Yuan et al.

Summary: This study investigated the concentration and characterization of condensable particulate matter (CPM) and filterable particulate matter (FPM) emitted from different stationary sources in Wuhan. The results showed that these stationary sources do emit some CPMs, with coal-fired plants having higher CPM concentrations.

Variation in PM2.5 sources in central North China Plain during 2017-2019: Response to mitigation strategies

Jiwei Li et al.

Summary: The study shows that PM2.5 concentrations in the Central North China Plain have decreased in recent years, mainly due to emission control measures. In particular, PM2.5 in autumn and winter is mainly composed of sulfate, nitrate, and ammonium, with secondary aerosols being a significant component of PM2.5.
