Application of zinc oxide nanoparticles as fertilizer boosts growth in rice plant and alleviates chromium stress by regulating genes involved in oxidative stress

Ved Prakash et al.

Summary: In this study, the researchers investigated the role of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) in promoting plant growth and relieving chromium-induced stress in rice seedlings. They found that exogenous supplementation of ZnO NPs enhanced the defense mechanisms of rice seedlings, increasing their tolerance against chromium stress. Additionally, this nanofertilizer reversed the inhibitory effects of chromium on growth and photosynthetic efficiency. This growth promotion was associated with the activation of antioxidative enzymes by ZnO NPs.
