Impact of aquaculture on distribution of dissolved organic matter in coastal Jeju Island, Korea, based on absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy

Jeonghyun Kim et al.

Summary: This study analyzed DOM near coastal aquafarms in Jeju Island and found that aquafarms are significant sources of DOM, with TDN mainly generated by aquaculture activities and DOC mainly enriched by natural biological activities in coastal waters.

The relevance of environment vs. composition on dissolved organic matter degradation in freshwaters

Nuria Catalan et al.

Summary: The composition of dissolved organic matter (DOM) plays a crucial role in its degradation and persistence in aquatic ecosystems. However, environmental conditions can also affect the degradation patterns of DOM. Experimental results showed that the composition of DOM was more important than the environment in determining the bulk decay patterns, although environmental factors had a stronger influence on shaping bacterial community composition.

Direct versus indirect effects of human activities on dissolved organic matter in highly impacted lakes

YingXun Du et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that autochthonous production plays a key role in mediating dissolved organic carbon and chromophoric DOM in lakes, while fluorescent DOM parameters are more sensitive to anthropogenic sources. By combining environmental monitoring with the PLS-PM model, we can better unravel the direct and indirect effects.

Fluorescence characteristics of dissolved organic matter in several independent water bodies: possible sources and land-use effects

Qiang He et al.

Summary: This study found differences in fluorescence properties of DOM among different independent water bodies, mainly originating from processes such as plant decomposition, soil organic matter, and microbial decomposition. Farmland contributed more to DOC concentration, humic-like components, and humification index than forests and grasslands. The eutrophication levels of corresponding water bodies can be reflected by fluorescent components and lna(254).

Variation in the content and fluorescent composition of dissolved organic matter in soil water during rainfall-induced wetting and extract of dried soil

Zhengkui Ge et al.

Summary: This study investigated the degradation of soil DOM mainly in capillary water after simulated rainfall, revealing variations in DOM content and composition. The findings allow for obtaining real information on soil DOM during wetting conditions, and better selection of extraction methods and indexes when studying soil DOM.

Characterization and Analysis of the COD Chemical Composition in the Polymer-Containing Oil Production Wastewater

Xianqing Yin et al.

Summary: By using the gradient membrane molecular weight division method and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, the composition of COD in oil production wastewater was analyzed. The results showed a decrease in the types of aromatic hydrocarbons, an increase in the types of straight-chain hydrocarbon organics, and a significant reduction in the total concentration of COD during advanced wastewater treatment.
