A constitutive model for metallic glasses based on two-temperature nonequilibrium thermodynamics

Wei Rao et al.

Summary: We have developed a new constitutive model for metallic glass that considers its out-of-equilibrium characteristics. By dividing the total internal energy into configurational and kinetic subsystems, and introducing configurational temperature coupling, we can effectively predict the deformations and shear banding behavior of metallic glasses.

A hierarchically correlated flow defect model for metallic glass: Universal understanding of stress relaxation and creep

Q. Hao et al.

Summary: Due to the disordered arrangement of atoms and deviation from thermodynamic equilibrium, the physical and mechanical properties of metallic glasses can change with time, temperature, and strain or stress. This study presents a theoretical framework based on the hierarchically correlated atomic theory, allowing for a quantitative description of the non-elastic deformation in metallic glasses.

Effect of physical aging and cyclic loading on power-law creep of high-entropy metallic glass

Langting Zhang et al.

Summary: The influence of physical aging and cyclic loading on the power-law creep mechanism of a La30Ce30Ni10Al20Co10 high-entropy metallic glass was investigated. The results revealed significant discrepancies between thermal treatment and mechanical treatment in terms of the creep mechanism.

Compositional dependence of the fragility in metallic glass forming liquids

Sebastian A. Kube et al.

Summary: The authors propose a new method to measure the fragility of metallic glass forming liquids and find significant variations in fragility across Mg-Cu-Y alloys. Contrary to conventional understanding, low fragility does not necessarily correlate with high glass-forming ability. The introduction of crystallization complexity provides an additional contribution to modeling glass forming ability.

Achieving structural rejuvenation in metallic glass by modulating β relaxation intensity via easy-to-operate mechanical cycling

L. T. Zhang et al.

Summary: This study proposes a mechanical cycling method as an alternative strategy for structural rejuvenation in metallic glasses. The results demonstrate that mechanical cycling wakes up frozen flow defects, accelerates creep, and enhances beta relaxation in the material. This handy anti-aging methodology provides an alternative pathway to optimize the mechanical properties of metallic glasses and contributes to a better understanding of the structure-property relationship in amorphous materials.

Quantized aging mode in metallic glass-forming liquids

Y. J. Lu et al.

Summary: The study investigates the aging process of supercooled Cu50Zr50 glass-forming liquid, revealing a multi-mode dynamics accompanied by a quantized hierarchy of mobile clusters. An aging model is proposed to describe the aging dynamics as a weighted average over quantized dynamic modes. This model predicts the heterogeneous dynamics in aging and equilibration of supercooled metallic liquids, shedding light on the intrinsic aspects influencing the aging process.

Dynamic mechanical relaxation and thermal creep of high-entropy La30Ce30Ni10Al20Co10 bulk metallic glass

LangTing Zhang et al.

Summary: Dynamic mechanical relaxation is a fundamental tool for understanding the mechanical and physical properties of viscoelastic materials like glasses. The high-entropy bulk metallic glass exhibits a distinct beta-relaxation feature. Anelastic strain is contributed by the stochastic activation of shear transformation zones (STZs), and interactions between STZs induce viscous-plastic strain under certain conditions.
