A generalized Debye-Huckel theory was used to calculate the coefficients of activity for water and ions in solutions of alkali metal formates at 298 K based on the experimental values of their static permittivity. The model was found to qualitatively reproduce the nonmonotonic dependence of the coefficients of activity in sodium and potassium formate solutions. The effects of hydration and ionic association on the thermodynamic properties of the studied systems were also discussed.
