Impact of different management measures on the colonization of broiler chickens with ESBL- and pAmpC- producing Escherichia coli in an experimental seeder-bird model

Caroline Robe et al.

Summary: Various management measures, such as increasing litter in pens, reducing stocking density, and using alternative broiler breeds, did not significantly reduce the colonization of ESBL- and pAmpC- producing E. coli strains in broilers. Focus should be on preventive strategies rather than attempting to reduce existing colonization.

Impact of On-Farm Interventions against CTX-Resistant Escherichia coli on the Contamination of Carcasses before and during an Experimental Slaughter

Michaela Projahn et al.

Summary: By implementing different on-farm interventions, significant reductions in external contamination of broiler chickens can be achieved, decreasing the dissemination of CTX-resistant strains. Wet and dirty broiler chickens are more likely to serve as a vehicle for the spread of CTX-resistant and total Enterobacteriaceae.
