3D velocity map imaging of electrons with TPX3CAM

Chuan Cheng et al.

Summary: In this study, we demonstrate three-dimensional velocity map imaging of low energy electrons using a TPX3CAM. The position and timing information on the camera sensor encode the three-dimensional momentum information [p(x), p(y), p(z)]. By employing a constant fraction discriminator and fast time to digital converter in the camera, we can accurately capture the time information. We showcase the capabilities of our apparatus through above threshold ionization measurements of xenon, which reveal distinct structures in the momentum-resolved photoelectron yield.

Tomographic reconstruction techniques optimized for velocity-map imaging applications

Chris Sparling et al.

Summary: This article discusses examples of extracting meaningful information from image projection data using tomographic reconstruction techniques, and introduces alternative strategies for photochemical imaging. The article demonstrates the advantages of these strategies and how they can outperform current commonly used methods. Notably, the Hankel Transform Reconstruction (HTR) provides a bound for the minimum number of projections needed to reliably reconstruct 3D photoproduct distributions.

The thorium-229 low-energy isomer and the nuclear clock

Kjeld Beeks et al.

Summary: The Th-229 nucleus has a low-energy isomeric state which has inspired the development of low-energy nuclear physics. Resonant laser excitation of the Th-229 isomer could be used to create a highly accurate optical clock, providing sensitivity to hypothetical new physics beyond the standard model. Although the challenge of laser excitation of Th-229 remains unsolved, recent experiments have advanced the field by providing essential information on transition energy and relevant nuclear properties.
