A smart discrete charging method for optimum electric vehicles integration in the distribution system in presence of demand response program

Meysam Saeedirad et al.

Summary: Electric vehicle charging is a common technique for techno-economic energy management in the distribution system. This method, if implemented properly, can bring benefits such as peak load shaving and cost reduction. Unlike traditional charging methods, smart charging charges vehicles based on their specific demand, resulting in shorter charging time and balanced energy consumption. To implement this method, vehicle owners need to provide information about their next trips, and a charging management system will plan the charging process considering various parameters. The aim is to minimize charging costs while taking technical and economic constraints into account.

A robust vehicle to grid aggregation framework for electric vehicles charging cost minimization and for smart grid regulation

Ubaid Ur Rehman

Summary: In this paper, an optimal hierarchical bi-directional aggregation algorithm is proposed for integrating electric vehicles in the smart grid using Vehicle to Grid (V2G) technology. The algorithm forecasts power demand and performs load scheduling by optimizing EVs charging/discharging tasks. It uses EVs and Charging Stations (CSs) as voltage and frequency stabilizing tools, and considers battery degradation cost and EV owners' preferences. Simulation results show that the proposed model is capable of integrating EVs while minimizing charging cost and providing effective grid stabilization services.

Reducing grid peak load through the coordinated control of battery energy storage systems located at electric vehicle charging parks

Daniel Kucevic et al.

Summary: Global climate change and decreasing costs of lithium-ion batteries are driving electric vehicles as a viable option in private transportation sector. However, high penetration of electric vehicles in urban distribution grids poses challenges such as line overloading for grid operators. To address this, grid integrated storage systems are proposed as an alternative to traditional grid reinforcement. By implementing a coordinated control strategy for multiple battery storage systems at EV charging parks using linear optimization and time series modeling, peak power at common coupling points can be reduced, with a maximum peak load reduction of 44.9% observed in the study.
