Expression of Fibrosis-Related Genes in Liver and Kidney Fibrosis in Comparison to Inflammatory Bowel Diseases

Miha Jerala et al.

Summary: By comparing gene expression data of liver and kidney fibrosis, we identified several genes that are important for fibrosis in inflammatory bowel diseases. These genes showed similar expression changes as in fibrosis of other organs, suggesting common mechanisms of fibrosis in different organ diseases. In addition, some genes were already active in patients with inflammatory bowel diseases even without fibrosis, indicating early activation of profibrotic pathways or overlapping functions between fibrosis and inflammation.

Elevated number of IL-21+TFH and CD86+CD38+B cells in blood of renal transplant recipients with AMR under conventional immuno-suppression

Jing Liu et al.

Summary: The objective of this study was to detect and analyze the number of different subsets of TFH and B cells in renal transplant recipients with different rejection conditions. The results suggested that circulating TFH cells may serve as biomarkers in patients with antibody-mediated acute rejection, promoting disease progression.

Preliminary Investigation of the Biomarkers of Acute Renal Transplant Rejection Using Integrated Proteomics Studies, Gene Expression Omnibus Datasets, and RNA Sequencing

Shuai Han et al.

Summary: Currently, kidney transplant biopsy is the main method for diagnosing acute allograft rejection, but it is invasive. By combining proteomics studies and public data sources, we found that immunoglobulin heavy constant alpha 1 and immunoglobulin kappa constant showed good performance in diagnosing acute allograft rejection and were validated through RNA sequencing.

Inhibition of Ferroptosis Attenuates Acute Kidney Injury in Rats with Severe Acute Pancreatitis

Deliang Ma et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated the involvement of ferroptosis in SAP-associated renal damage and presented ferroptosis as a therapeutic target for effective treatment of SAP-induced AKI. A rat model of SAP with AKI was established by retrogradely perfusing sodium taurocholate (5%) into the biliopancreatic duct. Inhibition of ferroptosis with liproxstatin-1 lowered the levels of serum amylase, TNF-alpha, IL-6, Cr, and BUN, decreased kidney lipid peroxidation, and alleviated pancreatic and renal histopathology injury in SAP rats.

The NFKB1 Promoter Polymorphism (-94ins/delATTG) Is Associated with Susceptibility to Cytomegalovirus Infection after Kidney Transplantation and Should Have Implications on CMV Prophylaxis Regimens

Hartmuth Nowak et al.

Summary: In kidney transplant recipients, CMV infection is common and associated with the NFKB1 gene polymorphism. The ins/ins genotype is found to have a higher risk for late-onset CMV infection, which should impact CMV chemoprophylaxis regimens post-transplantation.

CXCR4 blockade reduces the severity of murine heart allograft rejection by plasmacytoid dendritic cell-mediated immune regulation

Jian Fu et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that the combination of rapamycin and plerixafor in a fully-mismatched heart transplant model resulted in prolonged allograft survival, reduced fibrosis and myocyte lesions, and increased T-reg cell numbers, possibly through the regulation of pDCs. This pharmacological approach highlights the potential of pDCs as an attractive immunotherapeutic target along with plerixafor treatment.

Single-Cell Profiling of Kidney Transplant Recipients With Immunosuppressive Treatment Reveals the Dynamic Immune Characteristics

Yongguang Liu et al.

Summary: Kidney transplantation is the preferred treatment for end-stage renal failure, with immunosuppressive therapy being crucial for preventing rejection. The study utilized CyTOF to analyze changes in immune cell subgroups in kidney transplant recipients before and after receiving immunosuppressive agents, revealing significant alterations in immune cell types and proportions post-treatment.
