A Quantitative Framework to Evaluate the Seismic Resilience of Hospital Systems

Qingxue Shang et al.

Summary: A framework for quantitatively evaluating the seismic resilience of hospital systems is proposed, which categorizes a typical hospital system and quantifies importance factors for different functional units, subsystems, and components. Seismic resilience is quantified based on probabilistic seismic fragility analysis, and recovery time is calculated considering an idealized repair path. The loss of functionality of the hospital is evaluated by summing the weighted economic losses of all components. A case study of a hospital building is conducted to demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed framework.

Accessibility-oriented performance evaluation of high-speed railways using a three-layer network model

Zhaojing Wang et al.

Summary: This paper models the high-speed railway as a three-layer network and evaluates its integrated performance from the view of transportation accessibility. The prioritization of rail stations and comparison of their performances in different layers are conducted to analyze the limitations on the total integrated performance. A case study is conducted to verify the feasibility and superiority of the model. The findings provide management implications for rail transportation planning, organization, and operations.

A new evacuation accessibility analysis approach based on spatial information

Zhichen Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel analytical model of ship passage space evacuation accessibility is proposed based on GIS spatial analysis. The model analyzes the evacuation capacity of ship personnel from the perspective of space accessibility. It analyzes and measures the spatial shape, structure, and evacuation capacity of ship passages, as well as the spatial factors affecting evacuation behavior. The results demonstrate the model's accuracy in analyzing the evacuation accessibility of ship passage space.

The role of transportation infrastructure on the impact of natural hazards on communities

Jessica Boakye et al.

Summary: This paper introduces novel connectivity-based metrics within a Capability Approach framework to quantify well-being and distributive justice in the aftermath of a hazardous event. By linking individual capabilities with the loss or reduction of functionality of transportation infrastructure, the study investigates the impact of both short-term response and long-term recovery on capabilities.

A Probabilistic Framework to Evaluate Seismic Resilience of Hospital Buildings Using Bayesian Networks

Jin Liu et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a comprehensive framework to evaluate the seismic resilience of hospital buildings, taking into account the interdependencies among nonstructural components. The Bayesian network method is used to analyze the relationships between departments and rooms. A case study of a hypothetic hospital is presented to demonstrate the applicability of the framework.

Post-earthquake resilience optimization of a rural ?road-bridge? transportation network system

Mingyuan Zhang et al.

Summary: This paper proposes an optimization model of a rural road-bridge transportation network system with bridges as key links, based on the concept of resilience recovery. Evaluation indicators for system performance and resilience during the recovery process are proposed. A multi-objective non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm is used to solve a restoration schedule optimization problem for a specific rural network. This model provides decision support for post-earthquake recovery of rural traffic systems.

Post-earthquake resilience assessment and long-term restoration prioritization of transportation network

Yangyang Wu et al.

Summary: Efficient and safe transportation systems are crucial to communities during the long-term recovery period after earthquakes. This study introduces a new methodology for assessing the resilience performance of transportation networks during post-earthquake recovery, integrating traffic efficiency and safety into the assessment and prioritization of recovery. By modeling the traffic performance of partially closed road segments and introducing a resilience indicator, this approach aims to support more risk-informed post-hazard recovery planning.
