Luminescence dating of the late Quaternary sediments in Hangzhou Bay, China

Ruxin Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) dating was used to determine the age of late Quaternary sediments in the coastal plain of southern Hangzhou Bay. The results showed that the single-grain method was more reliable than the single-aliquot method, and the luminescence characteristics of quartz varied with respect to sensitivity, signal components, and saturation level, possibly due to climate change-induced variations in provenance and weathering characteristics.

Westerlies-Monsoon interaction drives out-of-phase precipitation and asynchronous lake level changes between Central and East Asia over the last millennium

Guoqiang Li et al.

Summary: The interaction between the East Asian summer monsoon and the mid-latitude Westerlies in the transition zone of the northern Tibetan Plateau has a significant impact on the moisture evolution in mid-latitude Asia. This study reveals that the precipitation variability of the Westerlies dominates the lake level changes in Toson Lake, in contrast to the records from the northeastern Tibetan Plateau and northern China. The results also indicate that the moisture transport to Central Asia is modulated by the see-saw of the North Atlantic Oscillation and the anticyclonic circulation over Mongolia, rather than directly influenced by the East Asian summer monsoon.

Optically stimulated luminescence dating using quartz

Andrew Murray et al.

Summary: OSL dating using quartz signals is a method to determine the deposition time of sedimentary archives by measuring stored energy and dose rates. Widely utilized in geological and archaeological studies, this technique faces challenges from various deposition environments and requires attention to precision and accuracy.
