Associations of Emotional, Physical, or Sexual Intimate Partner Violence and Depression Symptoms Among South African Women in a Prospective Cohort Study

Chukwuemeka N. Okafor et al.

Summary: This study investigates the longitudinal association between emotional, physical, or sexual intimate partner violence (IPV) and depression symptoms among South African women. Findings suggest that emotional and sexual IPV are significantly associated with depressive symptoms, while physical IPV is not statistically significant. Routine screening and intervention programs for IPV among women in South Africa are recommended.
