Mechanisms of impact and contextual aspects of a dementia special care unit in long-term care: a process evaluation

Laura Adlbrecht et al.

Summary: This study explored the impact mechanisms of a specific care concept from a dementia special care unit and found that the implementation and outcomes of the care concept are influenced by contextual aspects such as the (target) population and cultural, organisational and financial features. The care concept led to higher levels of relaxation, activities, and social interaction of residents, with its implementation highly depending on the shared understanding of nursing and the skills of the nursing team. Changes in residents' characteristics also result in altered effects of the concept.

The influence of nursing home managers' leadership on person-centred care and stress of conscience: A cross-sectional study

Annica Backman et al.

Summary: This study explores the relationship between leadership, person-centred care, and stress of conscience in nursing homes. Results show that leadership is associated with higher levels of person-centered care and lower levels of stress of conscience among staff. Additionally, person-centered care is also linked to lower stress of conscience. Leadership characterized by coaching, feedback, teamwork, conflict resolution, idea experimentation, and individualized work control can lead to reduced staff stress and improved person-centred care provision.
