Physicochemical and structural properties of a bio-based antioxidant packaging film derived from Eremurus luteus root gum

Dina Shahrampour et al.

Summary: A bio-based film made from Eremurus luteus root gum was fabricated and its properties were investigated under different plasticizers and concentrations. The results showed that increasing the plasticizers' concentration affected the moisture content, solubility, water vapor permeability, and contact angle of the film. Glycerol and sorbitol improved the antioxidant activity of the film, but had different effects on its mechanical properties. The color and light transmission of the film were influenced by the plasticizers' concentration, and the addition of plasticizers improved the surface morphology. This study suggests that Eremurus luteus root gum is a good source for bio-based film production.

Physicochemical and Antioxidant Properties Based on Fish Sarcoplasmic Protein/Chitosan Composite Films Containing Ginger Essential Oil Nanoemulsion

Luyun Cai et al.

Summary: In this study, ginger essential oil (GEO) nanoemulsion was incorporated into fish sarcoplasmic protein (FSP) and chitosan (CH) blend films at different levels to evaluate their physical, mechanical, antioxidant, and thermal properties. The addition of GEO nanoemulsion reduced tensile strength but increased elongation at break of the films, while also enhancing water barrier properties and affecting water distributions. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy provided insights into the microstructure and molecular interactions of the films, highlighting the potential of GEO nanoemulsion for improving the properties of environmentally friendly packaging films.
