Generation of Geometric Extra Phase and Accompanying Temporal Effects in Asymmetric Optically Compensated IPS-LCDs and FFS-LCDs

Summary: This study reports the generation of an extra phase and faster response speed in an asymmetric optically compensated IPS liquid crystal system and FFS LCD for the first time. An approximate analytical formula was derived to explain the experimental results and simulations were conducted to achieve normal black operation using a dynamic optical retarder.
