Optimization of the sintering temperature, cooling time and grain size parameters to reduce residual stresses of copper-aluminum functionally graded material using response surface methodology

Ahmad Gheysarian et al.

Summary: The urgent need for combining heat-resistant and flexible materials in the medical, aerospace, and military industries is addressed through the use of functionally graded materials (FGM). FGMs have varying properties along their thickness direction, allowing for the creation of materials that can meet the requirements of different applications. This study investigates the effect of production parameters on residual stresses in aluminum-copper FGM parts and aims to optimize the production process. The results show that the number of residual stresses decreases with increasing sintering temperature, cooling time, and uniformity along the thickness. Finite element modeling confirms the experimental findings.

Research on mechanical and erosion behavior of stepped polymeric functionally graded materials reinforced with aluminum

Vasavi Boggarapu et al.

Summary: This research aimed to evaluate the mechanical and erosion characteristics of stepped polymeric functionally graded materials (PFGMs) reinforced with aluminum particles through varying filler content and different fabrication methodologies. The results showed that the sample with thermal curing between layers exhibited higher strength and erosion resistance, indicating the effectiveness of this method in enhancing the properties of PFGMs.

Influence of copper addition on corrosion properties and hardness of Al-Cu/Al two-layered-structure composites

Kotikala Rajasekhar et al.

Summary: An experimental investigation was conducted on the hardness, density, and corrosion behavior of two-layered structured Al-xCu/Al samples under hot compaction conditions. Different copper content percentages were studied, with 15% copper content displaying the highest hardness at 550 degrees C. The addition of copper content was found to increase the corrosion susceptibility of the samples.

A novel two-step method for producing Al/Cu functionally graded metal matrix composite

Moslem Tayyebi et al.

Summary: A novel method for manufacturing functionally graded metal matrix composites (FGMMC) is introduced in this study. The method combines the cutting-edge processes of accumulative roll bonding (ARB) and cold roll bonding (CRB) to fabricate Al/Cu functionally graded composites. The results show that the hardness of the layers increases with an increase in Cu content, and the tensile strength gradually grows as the volume fractions of Cu increase.

Investigation of tribological properties of biomass developed porous nano activated carbon composites

M. Om Prakash et al.

Summary: This study explores the use of porous nano activated carbon materials derived from waste biomass as reinforcements in epoxy composites. Results show that the inclusion of activated carbon enhanced the wear resistance of composites, with the lowest wear rate observed in composites with 2% filler loading. Regardless of the filler content, all composites displayed semi-ductile erosion wear behavior, with the 2% activated carbon epoxy composites showing the best abrasive wear resistance on the P800 abrasive surface.

Summary: In this study, four dissimilar-layered volume fraction of Al-Cu functionally graded materials were fabricated using powder metallurgy. Mechanical and microstructural properties were characterized to show gradual variation in material composition distribution in two-layered FGMs. Improved micro-mechanical properties of the Al-Cu FGMs were observed based on material selection, sintering temperature and dwell time.
