Opportunities and Challenges for Long-Distance Transmission in Hollow-Core Fibres

Pierluigi Poggiolini et al.

Summary: The loss of hollow-core NANF has approached that of standard SMF, while non-linear effects are significantly lower. NANF has a wider usable bandwidth and faster propagation speed, potentially enabling significant throughput gains in optical communication systems.

Amplified Transmission Beyond C- and L- Bands: Bismuth Doped Fiber Amplifier for O-Band Transmission

Vitaly Mikhailov et al.

Summary: This paper reviewed different optical amplification technologies beyond C- and L- bands and discussed their advantages and disadvantages. It was found that these technologies have not been implemented in practical systems due to the sufficient capacity provided by C- and L- bands amplified systems and the lack of a complete optical components ecosystem. However, O-band amplification may be an attractive solution as it can meet the overall capacity demand and power budget reduction requirements caused by the increasing bit rate of pluggable modules.

Transmission of 61 C-Band Channels Over Record Distance of Hollow-Core-Fiber With L-Band Interferers

Antonino Nespola et al.

Summary: The experiment conducted two transmission experiments using Nested-Antiresonant Nodeless (NANF) hollow-core fibers, achieving record transmission distances and observing no adverse effects from L-band interferers on the NANF. Progress in reducing NANF loss and inter-modal interference may make these fibers a promising alternative for next-generation higher-throughput fibers.

High Gain, Low Noise, Spectral-Gain-Controlled, Broadband Lumped Fiber Raman Amplifier

Sijing Liang et al.

Summary: An 80 nm bandwidth dual-stage diode-pumped lumped Raman amplifier with a short length of highly nonlinear fiber is demonstrated, achieving a high overall gain of 27 dB. By adjusting the spectral gain profile in the two amplifier stages, Rayleigh back scattering impact is mitigated and thermally generated noise is controlled, resulting in an average noise figure of 5.8 dB with <1 dB variation across the full amplifier bandwidth.
